TRAINING METHOD
Our training method focuses on the individual, honing our teaching around the specific skills and techniques an individual needs to be a successful player. We focus on the 4 core fundamental skills needed in a game: move, receive, strike and feint. We focus purely on the individual skills which complement a player and gives them confidence when they play in a team.
MASTER THE
4 FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS
These skills are the foundation of becoming a successful soccer player at any level. By mastering the 4 fundamental skills we are able to accelerate a player’s development, with each player learning 10 times faster than if they attempted to train themselves. Our method builds confidence and ability both on and off the ball, improving a students performance during matches.
S4S ACADEMY IS FOR ANY AGE AND ABILITY LEVEL
At S4S we believe that the focus points for each particular element of the game (dribbling, striking the ball, receiving the ball and feints to beat an opponent) should be proportionately trained depending on the age and ability level of the individual.
All four elements are important to the game and at S4S we have a specific philosophy to target each ability level relevant to these 4 elements.
TEACHING PRINCIPLES
Introduction to the skill
Practise the skill and learn the skill without any external pressure. This is through repetition and good feedback from professional coaches with precise information regarding technique.
Perform the skill with controlled pressure
Practise the skill in an environment controlled by the coach but with external pressures. These might be cones, other players or time constraints.
Perform the skill in an open play game with game-realistic pressure
Practise the skill in an open game where other players are involved and the match or drill is flowing.
Apply this to weekend matches
Each week you will be armed with masterful techniques to improve and perform at your best in your matches.
1. MOVE
Moving with the ball includes dribbling from point A to point B and the different ways to get there. We train the player to be able to move as fast as we can with the ball whilst keeping control.
2. RECEIVE
Receiving the ball focuses on having a good first touch. A good first touch will ensure you pass the ball to your teammate quickly or swiftly execute the next play.
3. STRIKE
Striking the ball covers passing, crossing, shooting, volleying and all the different variations of each of these. We need to know how to perform each strike and which one to use in the right situation so we can make the right pass, connect the right cross and score the goal.
4. FEINT
Feints are moves to help us confuse and dribble past an opponent or create openings to pass and score. Using feints gives us an advantage by delaying an opponent’s reaction time.
